Shulers B-B-Q Restaurant

Shulers Restaurant Latta SC

So here is the intro incase you don't know what Shulers is. Shulers is a restaurant in Latta, SC that was founded by a local family with good work ethics and a homestyle restaurant with all the hearts you can get. It was featured on an episode of the Profit (Profit is a show on CNBC about a Profiteer who saves businesses who are in need of help or in trouble) due to the mass popularity that overflows the restaurant (which is carefully a business's dream), fearing they would lose their company.

The business has been opened and ran by family only for several years. They homecook everything with real special recipes only family can see. Amazingly, not pre-obviously, the business was such a success that they couldn't manage it and thought they were going to go out of business and unfortunately were losing so much business by turning away customers who didn't have cash or check but debit. A reason was their registers. The guy from Profit reached out and helped them. The family of the restaurant wanted to go national and put more restaurants like this out there because they were no doubt making so much business and are known widely and wanted to spread out to reach more people, but Profit said that won’t work. He fears that for this type of business, franchising is too risky and that they were more categorized like a destination. He wanted people to come from distances to travel here and eat because people were already coming from farther miles. This place is already a special experience. It would take away from the Ma & Pa style of business.

Also, he knew that there are different tastes of barbecue around the country and varies in different style of different states, and it wouldn't be the same. He didn’t take that chance. So it's better to make it a worthwhile eat. Marc decided he would add a general store with relative items to the restaurant to improve sales, and add a deck outside to create an overflow seating (which worked out better than they planned in the end). Also, he wanted to add a more reasonable cash system with two registers that could accept debit and credit and could be easier to use. A reason why so people weren't turned away due to cash or check only. He increased the shares, and made the food sell for what its worth or valued by evenly creating increased cost revenue but making it reasonably priced at the same time. The biscuits are  on his mind to distribute them to as many grocery stores as possible. He thinks they're the real moneymakers of the business and are truly so good!

                                                          above our heads^^^

On the other end, the restaurant was named after the wife's dad Shuler. Later they came about a son and named him  Shuler after the restaurant. They wanted to name him that because he is now such a big part of their family and their business. They are very polite to us customers, treat everyone like family, and sure know how to make rmean ribs! Successful they are, and are the pride and joy of the town and show us what they mean to us and what they mean about the Country.
their business could never be more wonderful.

                                                         extended deck

This is where I come in, about two-three years later or in Summer 2017. The B-B-Q Restaurant shows her small town cute little charm and its rustic backwoods history that complements its location and homestyle service. Business is rocking, and they have astounding delicious food prepared so uniquely, and the quality and effort put into the food is unmeasurably great!

My meal costs $15 for the Homestyle cooked AYCE buffet made from family recipe.

I traveled an extra 50 miles to get here and there after a trip to Myrtle Waves (a very popular waterpark).

When we arrived, I walked into a giant wood-cabiny building, then entered a smaller building connected and went up to the cashier. (the smaller building is the original structure)
I Asked the kind hostess, “Where do I order my food?” This was completely different set up than I was used to.

She kindly responded "You'll pay here, what would you like to order?"
I said I'd like to get the buffet please?
She said  “ ‘Just  for 1, right?”

Yes”.

“Alright, that'll be $15.xx”

I asked is the drink included?
She said Yes it is. Politely, so I payed, which was easy and quick.

I also asked another lady if I am allowed to take photos or pictures here,
She said that is fine. We had several people with us who really enjoyed it here.

They sat us down wherever we prefered.

Drinks were ordered and were served in a proper way.

They have  an all-you-can-eat self serve buffet, but remember to be careful of how much you get, in the buffet you might want to consider to limit the amount of entrees you get (my tip). It’s every filling. You should try a little bit of everything and experience the food you picked. It's a special restaurant. Plus, you won't have the same thing on your plate next time you go up, no doubt. There is so much to choose from. Also, meals and buffets are seasonal. Everything is fresh and hot. They have these famous biscuits, like I was mentioning earlier, made from hand scratch only by their own recipe. They are now these little soft white round biscuits and are what foodies called amazing, and the texture feels so great in the mouth. They are hardly able to stay out in the buffet line because they get snatched up so quick.
All of their Food has high-quality ingredients and are carefully crafted, hand made and cooked to an amazing perfection.

They had these ‘squashed- squash and nuts’, medium and regular pulled pork...
(regular pork: good and juicy and a little spice, medium was a little spicy), ribs cooked with their own homestyle smokey recipe, cooked out the back. The mac&cheese was thick and  gooey cheese was beautifully baked in. They also had fried chicken with spiced batter, baked chicken legs and thighs spiced and seasoned with fresh herbs; cornbread; lima beans; collard greens; chicken and dumplings; spiced caramelized sweet-buttery 1/2 corn on the cob and their famous biscuits, etc. I could name every food in the line and still wouldn't remember them all!.

You can also order from a menu too.
Buffet is always open after you pay.

They have a Dessert bar with so much food:
-self serve ice cream
-banana pudding
-Sometimes watermelon cake
-caramel layered cake
-chocolate layered cake
-this green whipped dessert with marshmallows and nuts and whipped cream
-strawberry short cake casserole (you could say) which is basically strawberries, whipped cream, shortcake, and fun!
-etc..

The whole experience was fascinating. Overall, the restaurant was clean, well maintained, warm and inviting. The bathrooms were very clean too which is nice due to the census of the restaurant. They treated us like loyal customers, or even like family. There was something there for everyone to enjoy.  We were so stuffed, we had so much food left over from the buffet, we wanted to-go boxes. Unfortunately, they won't allow to-go for buffets even if you only had leftovers from one plate. It’s weight and distribution issues. Although, you are allowed to have to go if you order a meal from the menu. We were alright, they were nice about it.

                                                        Spice and Jam Rack

||| After the whole dinner, we shopped around the gift shop. It is loaded with stuff from jams and jellies to caps to rustic antiques to everything. They had ample amount of things to choose from, and the whole store smelled like fresh spiced wood. it was a very pleasant natural aroma that complemented its surroundings. They had tons of bottles of jams, ciders, spices and unique salsa. They had this one salsa called ‘peach salsa’ and Key-lime jam. They have spiced apple cider (from concentrate) and tons of candy, also some nice rocking chairs outside to rest in the shade of the porch.

I asked the lady, just to make sure, “I heard on the internet you guys were featured in the profit”, (I was not knowing if there were multiple ones or not). She said “yes, we were”.

I asked, “How was it?”

“It was good, we had a good time”. I thanked her for the service she portrayed of this place, how well kept it is. It was pleasant talking to her and she was very kind. I really appreciate qualities of business like that very much.

I WILL try to comeback here one day, and I have a lot of other places on the list to do so too. |||

Every second was a fresh moment there. A friend of mine recommended this place to eat, as she took us here. She is a real foodie like I am, and she knows we would all really enjoy it here, and we did. Thank you!.

The price of the buffet is $8.95 before 4p. and 13.xx+tax ($15.0) after 4p.

Additionally, there is a banquet room next to the shop, incase you guys wanted to have an event or reception there. The Celtic Fringe in Reidsville, NC

Celtic Fringe

By Joshua Galbicsek
Mon.  1-30-2017

This is a blog about a really nice place I went to eat at. It was an eclectic experience. The place is known as The Celtic Fringe, an Irish Pub located in downtown Reidsville off of Market street.  and I would like to let you know about my experience I had here. I would hope that this blog will help you decide to come here and enjoy the authentic cuisine, and to have a good time.

Well, I'd like to say first, when we walked in the restaurant it had a stressless environment, everything was so relaxed and orderly. The restaurant had a fine sense of peace, and the server greeted us kindly, with warmth like a Baggins would do so if they had expected guests at a party at the front door. We walked right in, and the server she sat us down quickly and sharply. To let you know, though, you'll need to call ahead of time by letting them know when you want to eat there. They do not accept reservations due to the census of the restaurant which seats 30, and the fact that this kitchen is very small. They'll let you in 30 minutes ahead of time by notifying them and seat you at the very next available table only when all guests of your party arrive.

She placed the menus next to us, and waited for us to look over the menu. She asked a little later, “What would you like to have to drink?” Rob said, (as I forgot to write, Rob was the kind fellow who planned this meal, as a graduation gift, and is a great teacher and friend too, who took me here and)said he'd “Yes, I'd like to have a sweet tea, please.”  And as I ordered, I asked Rob if it was okay for me to get a coffee, and he kindly said yes,  and so I asked her for a decaf coffee. The server asked “Would you like cream and sugar with that?”, and I said “yes, that's fine.” I also ordered a water, too.

As she was walking away to place our order, Rob wanted to apprise the waitress that I write reviews for restaurants and blogs for business, and she seemed pleased about that! I told her that this place really reminded me of a restaurant in my hometown (Southern Pines, NC) called Ashten's. It's an authentic creative and beautifully historically designed eatery, which it relates a lot like this restaurant. It's a Pub, an authentic restaurant, and a personal business.  She said she's heard of the town, but not the restaurant and was also pleased by this fact too.

She later came back with our orders. Rob had received his sweet tea, and I got the coffee. Drinks cost $2.0. Wow! You should  have seen it (you will in the photos I took)! The coffee had a little sugar and cream tray, with a container of cream on the side. The cream was served in a miniature stainless steel pitcher, about ¼ of a cup, and the sugar was beside it. The coffee was the most surprising thing I've seen yet that day, which was served in a glass mug, but looked like a wineglass with a mug attached to it. It Was very unique. The coffee tasted authentic, and was very sweet and rich. It was very clever the way they crafted the mug. The water also came, and it was very clean and refreshing. It was served in a tall curved looking glass, like a brewery glass. It had a nice texture in my hands.

Later, after we received our drinks, we ordered our food. Usually the food takes a while to come out due to the small kitchen and depended on the census size, as I wrote above. Luckily, we had got here just in time. We ordered appetizers, and what we ordered was their famous Cheese Fries ($6.0 for ½  size/ $9.0 for full size), served with fries, Irish cheddar and smoked Gouda, rashers, green onions and Jameson whiskey sauce, and on the side you had a choice of sauce. I recommend ranch! It served us both comfortable, about 3 servings for a ½ size (small). The ½ size is literally half the size of the regular size.

We could hardly finish that plate, and so we had it to-go, and Rob decided to give it to his Wife, who likes this place a lot. It was time to for us to order our entree. We both decided and agreed to their Shepherds Pie (9.0), which was delicious. It is made with sweet stewed lamb, rosemary, deliciously topped with simple veggies with peas, corn, and such, real oven browned whipped potatoes presented with a fancy uniformed texture, salt, and spices garnished with sweet sauteed caramelized onions, fresh garlic, Irish cheddar, a sweet mint sauce and baked until piping hot. It served in our opinion for a reasonable portion about 2-3 people or meals, per plate! No wonder why they said to “loosen your belts” on the menu. On we waited, and hardly waited by the fact that it came out way quicker than expected. It was amazing. As we devoured half our plates by within 10 minutes, we were stuffed. The server later asked us how our food was, and we said it was amazing. Rob had never ordered a shepherd's pie from here before, and he said he’ll try it today. He was pleased by the fact that it was freshly made and well prepared, and by the taste, I wasn't surprised he wanted more. It had filled us both up very quickly. Shepherd's pie is one of my favorite Irish dishes mostly because of the meat and potatoes.

We then decide we had some room for some dessert. If you look on the menu, you'll notice that the dessert is missing, (or not placed on it). Instead, they spoke to us the dessert upon choices of New York-style cheesecake, Creme Brulee, Shortbread cake, and a couple others.  We had ordered the home-style Creme Brulee (not sure of the price). We had only ordered one because we were really full, but when we started eating it- well, we couldn't stop. It was amazing! The creme brulee was made with thick heavy whipped cream not too sweet, which was really good for that dish, and homemade sweet custard creme with torched sugar on top. I can tell you this, it was NOT vanilla pudding you buy at the grocery store, it was Mm..mm..mmy! I really didn't care for the sugar on top.  My only complaint about the sugar on top of the custard was that it was a little bitter in my taste and got stuck in my teeth a lot, which happens on all creme brulees I try. It was nothing wrong they did. But despite that, it was gone within a few seconds. We chomped away with that, wishing we had ordered more than one plate, not realizing how good it was!

The Strange Figure in the Window

December 18, 2016

Photo and Story written and produced by Joshua A. Galbicsek

Original Story written Thursday 28th, 2016

I took this picture on Main Street in Reidsville NC on an afternoon riding by. Whatever seems to be here is strange in my view. I edited this picture only by cropping multiple times on a few devices. Then I highlighted the area (blueish) where I'm focusing on of the subject. The subject seems to be a small child, very young, more like a small infant. He looks like he's crying. His head is leaning up on a 4 5 degree angle facing towards the left under the bottom window pane on the top left corner.  It looks like he has a very large ear to the right of his face near the bottom. It appears to be holding something in his hand to the side of him, which looks like a smiling face out from the window (female face). I also see a bow tie around his his neck. The most strangest thing about this picture is that every time I look at this picture, it hasn't changed, because usually when people see random fuzz, it's usually nothing. But I studied this picture a few weeks before I wrote this and I got the same results.

I also have somewhat of a reasonable theory, even though I don't really believe in theories. I have one that makes a lot of sense  (not to be hypocritical). It turns out that this house is located on Mainstreet, DIRECTLY ON IT! The house is built on a row of Victorian houses. The house is white, poorly maintained, two-stories, doors missing, windows boarded up, and very, VERY old! It is also a former church, too. This supports the idea of the theory.

Here's my theory: I feel this little kid's parents left him behind by accident. He's been waiting for a long time, waiting and waiting for them to come back, they never did. (The very most strangest detail that supports this is that he's facing in the direction of downtown Greensboro NC). Waiting for a long time, no one had returned, ever, he didn't make it because no one knew he was at home. They were probably trying to return home to get him, but when they headed back to pick him up, they didn't make it back due to a tragic inconvenience. He was probably really weak and sick, and I'm sure that his family really loved him. He never got fed, cared, or got help from anyone because there weren't any ways to communicate to anyone because he was probably not able to understand how to use a telephone. He looks like he's at the age where he can't process the understanding of how to use a telephone.

To this day, from what I've seen in this picture, after he's been long gone, he's still looking for his family to return home, still waiting. Reidsville has a lot of strange paranormal stories about supernatural occurrences happening in the older historic parts of downtown Reidsville NC. I still can't figure out why there seems to be a head in his arms. I think it's a symbol of regret and fear. It may be a harmless spiritual figure, it might not be. I do know for sure that there is a definite image of this figure.

I can understand why the kid's crying, too, because if my parents were separated from me while I'm a small infant, I would be extremely upset and scared. That once slightly happened to me, but in a different way. My family said they're going somewhere fun. Seeing them leave without me, I had a meltdown, not knowing why they left me, scared. My sister was with me. They came back 15 minutes later. I was extremely happy, frustrated, and confused. I was about 4 or 5-1/2 when they did that. I know they didn't do it to be mean. I really don't know why they did that, but I think it was of a discipline for something I did earlier that day. Still, I can't figure out why.

Chapman's Food and Spirits, Southern Pines NC

November 19th, 2016

             CHAPMAN'S Food & Spirits

FIRST of all, I have to say that we were standing out in the cold, and we went to eat somewhere after an event in downtown. Upon arriving, 15 minutes early (precisely), they let us in because of the cold weather outside, as they did to many others, which we really appreciated very much. Once we got in, they sat us down and gave us all menus. I really thought that was helpful because I had never been here before, so I had plenty of time to look over the menu.

When they asked us what we want to drink, I asked what they had, because it wasn't clearly labled on the menu. They said they have Coke products, tea, lemonade, and an Arnold Palmer. Well, I said Yes to the Arnold Palmer. They asked "Do you want sweet or nonsweet tea mixed with it. I asked if you can do half-sweet and nonsweet tea, and they said "I think we can make that work". It was delicous.

They came back, and we ordered our food. Two of us ordered soup (I had Lobster Bisque), which went with Oyster Crackers, and it was very tasty! We also ordered an EntreĆ© of which was called the Tuna Lobster Salad, which had chopped lobster, raw ahi-tuna on top of assorted lettuce, also with a small portion of wakewe salad mixed in it, and on the side went a Sesame Ginger dressing. The salad and lobster had a hint of wasabi already mixed in it, but it was very opaque, and you could hardly taste it in there. Must I say, the portions are big. It was enough to fill up 2-3 adults.  The meal was presented very well, and it tasted very delicious.

The menu was presented well too, and on it they have soups, sandwiches, EntreƩs, seafood, pasta, burgers, etc.. They also have their Daily Specials. The back of the menu has a large selection of drink and spirits (cocktails, wines, and beers). So, overall, I'm very pleased with service, food, presentation, care and effort they put into this place. I will definitely come back here again when I get the chance. Thankyou!

The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. The atmosphere and surroundings were charming, quiet, peaceful, and appealing to the local taste. The surroundings have a higher contemporary elegance and ambience that matches the towns charm.

In the restaurant they have 3 rooms combined. Two rooms are dining rooms, and the third is a raised bar. The decor is really nice, comfortable, and we'll laid-out. Service is open at 11a. -10p,( as is the bar, too), all week (including Sunday). Hours vary depending on Holidays. The restaurant is located on 157 E New Hampshire Ave, Southern Pines NC, 28387, next to O'Donnells Pub. If you need more information, their phone number is (910) 246-0497 or visit them at www.chapmansfoodandspirits.com.

Thankyou for reading this blog and I hope you guys can come back to read more blogs about a lot of everything! Please write back or respond to what you've read to my email at josh.g.0719@gmail.com or j98gabs@yahoo.com .

Betsy's Crepes

NOTICE: THERE MAY BE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS DUE TO LENGTHY BLOGGING. THANKYOU, AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS BLOG AND FIND IT USEFUL. SOME IMAGES ARE FROM CERTAIN SITES SUCH AS YELP,

please also note that the last photo was taken by me and is original!

Betsy's Crepes in Downtown Southern Pines, NC

Betsy's Crepes is another one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Southern Pines. They have a variety of different savoury and sweet crepes to choose from. They're all delicious and extremely fancy. Almost all of them are $12 and below. Their crepes are named after European things in the mid centuries, and royals, like the Eiffel, a really savoury dish. For example, they have the Mary Antoinette, a dessert crepe with your choice of batters to choose from (I recommend Hungarian Batter because it's sweeter), Nuetela, bananas, strawberries, and whipped cream. If you don't want whipped cream, just ask them not to put it on. They also have a really good crepe called Josephine where it has goat cheese and caramelized onions for $7.0 with your own choice of batter (I chose the regular because it suits more of the lunchy type of crepe rather than a sweeter type like a Hungarian batter), and if you want chicken added to it, it'll jut cost $9.0 total, which the dish has a large side salad. You get a lot with what you pay for.  This place is always filling, and we always have to save room for dessert, which is also filling too, but really good! I like to come here for lunch because it's relaxing. This place is usually crowded at around 11a. -1p. You can make reservations if you'd like, but most likely you don't have to.

The inside is so unique. First, every table is different, so it has  unique flow to the restaurant. It's usually a 'find your own table' type of seating, which is nice because you can get to choose a table that best suits you (in my opinion). Kids always come, and really enjoy it a lot. This is a kid friendly place to eat, or a 'groups of people who want to hangout and have a nice lunch together' type of restaurant. The restaurant is so charming, and has a lot of character built to it. Second, they have unique decor on the walls like a giant fork, almost as tall as the doorway, that's is made out of the same material as a regular fork. The staff who work there are excellent, patient, really pleasant to talk to, and listen very well to the customers orders. On the tables, the restaurant has menus, around 3-4-5(depending on the table), to the side or the middle, so its convenient to not have to wait to get the menu. The prices are average, I assume, like at most creperies

This building is next to a bakery called Broad St. Bakery & Cafe that sells really good meals, cakes, and fudge. Betsy's Crepes is located on 127 SW. Broad St. Southern Pines, NC 28387. Hours are Monday- Friday @ 7a. -4p., Saturday @ 8a.- 4p., and on Sunday @ 9a.- 2p.  Prices vary overtime. You can visit them at Betsyscrepes.com or call them at (910) 246-2406 for more information. This building is a creamy yellow brick building with large white windows. I hope you come to this place because the food is fanstatsic. It's easy to pay. They write down what you order of what you ask them, and lay it on the table. When you're finished eating, you leave your food or whatever on the table and take the order ticket to the front and pay. That's it! I hope you find this blog to be helpful, and if you liked it, tell me what you think by writing me to my email at josh.g.0719@gmail.com or at j98gabs@yahoo.com . Thankyou for reading this and I hope you've enjoyed what you read. Please come visit this place, it's worth the time like always!
