The SUNRISE THEATER EXPERIENCE
Hi, it's me, Josh again coming back for my second blog. This one is about a smalltown charming little theater in downtown Southern Pines. The theater is called the Sunrise Theater. The theater is a small one-theater, two-story building connected to many other little buildings. It's a small, charming historic gem of Southern Pines. Everything from service to staff are great. I went to the theater twice over a chunk of time, and both times I was very pleased with the way they ran the place.
They often have live music, operas, movies, performances, and local plays. The staff who work here are local workers, and treat everyone like they're all special guests. They make every visit special and unique.
The theater shows great, popular trending movies almost every week. They try to find popular movies that everyone will enjoy. The prices for admission are really good. The atmosphere here is classy. I've come here to watch a holiday performance once and it was really fun and enjoyable. I've recently been here to watch a movie at this place for the first time, and was a stunning experience. The movie they played was good, and it came out recently this year.
We got to sit on the balcony, which is nothing I've ever done before to see a movie, so that was exciting! The balcony is free, and in my opinion, has a way better view than down below. It was something special to do. I'm glad I went to see a movie there to try something new. I have to mention that the theater has great, terrific, high-def crisp, clear, and deeply detailed sound. They use Dolby Digital Surround-sound Theatre speakers. It was really thrilling to hear. It was a little unusual to hear that in a really old theater. The theater is old, but the technology is highly up-to-date. The building is very clean and well-maintained. The theater is historic mixed with modern amenities. Mind that the theater has one theater and two-stories.
You DO need to know to be very cautious when walking up and down the stairs, as they're very steep and narrow. The lady who made the announcements told us to use the rail at all times no matter what the circumstance is, even for younger people, because it's really easy to miss a step and fall. The reason for this is because the way they constructed the buildings then were smaller and had more narrow staircases to save room.
The theater is different from most theaters because before they start a movie, there's a lady or person, depending on who's working there at the time, who comes out to the front of the theater and announces with a good attitude about new upcoming events, donations, news and information about the theater and history of how it runs, which is VERY simple, and acknowledges and thanks everyone for coming and supporting the theater.
When you walk in to the theater, the entrance is brightly lit up, gleaming with old fashioned theater lights like what you see at the entrance of a Broadway theater in New York, or like an extravagant hotel in Las Vegas, which gives it a Grandeur scale and feel to it. It makes us feel special inside. They have a concession stand in the front where (everybody likes this) they sell wine and beer- that you can take it into, and consume it, in the theater; and then you can get the ordinary concession snacks, like candy and such. The ticket booth (box office) is out in the front. Tickets are $8.0, and the drinks are as reasonably priced as the tickets are. The tickets used to be cheaper, but they raised it for reasons I don't know. The staff are outstanding, service is great, and everyone has a great time.
They also have a yoga class in the building, and it's supposed to be good! The murals on the side and on the front are nicely and cleverly, creatively foolsy painted windows, with one real window on the front of the theater at the top, where at night it's lit up. On the lawn beside the place, they set up and perform First Friday, which is where a live band performs at the first Friday of every month until it's too cold (usually October or November), free to everyone. They have music, entertainment, drinks, food, booths, and special deals for tickets at the Sunrise. The building was one of the first buildings built in this town, so it's really historic. It has a very special charm to it, like the Ice Cream Parlor.
I went here in the evening, and it was all lit up, and it looked really beautiful and eye-popping. The lights are a special feature of the building, in my opinion, because it looks really old yet fancy, and showy. It's a wonder to come here. There's nothing bad to say about this place.
Come visit, this is a very unique experience not to miss out on. This building is the first building you see that's right across from the Southern Pines Train Station. Popular times to go is at 6p.- 9p. It's open Monday through Sunday at 12p.- 9:30p. It's located on 250 NW Broad St. , in Southern Pines, NC. Their phone number is (910) 692-8501, or you can go to their website at sunrisetheater.com .
